Time for Accountability: When a Board Member Becomes a Liability

In any community, the board of governors is entrusted with a critical responsibility — to represent the interests of the homeowners, to uphold the community’s values, and to serve with respect, humility, and transparency. Unfortunately, at Snug Harbor, one board member appears to have forgotten that.

Over recent months, a troubling pattern has emerged. A particular member of our Board of Governors has adopted a tone and attitude that is not only unprofessional, but deeply disrespectful to the very people they are meant to serve. Property owners have been talked down to, belittled, and in some cases, outright dismissed during meetings and interactions. The behavior is not just off-putting — it’s unacceptable.

Community leadership demands more than just knowledge of bylaws or procedures. It demands emotional intelligence, basic decency, and the ability to treat others — especially neighbors — with respect. What we are seeing is the opposite: a know-it-all approach that shuts down dialogue, creates division, and makes residents feel unheard and unwelcome.

This behavior is more than a personality flaw — it’s a governance issue. When a board member begins to treat property owners like an inconvenience rather than stakeholders, the entire integrity of the board is at risk.

Let’s be clear: no one is above accountability. If a board member cannot conduct themselves with the professionalism and mutual respect this role requires, then it is time to step down. The community deserves better — not just in terms of policy, but in how we are treated as individuals.

The residents of Snug Harbor are watching. And we’re expecting better.
