What Is Going On With the Finances? A Look at the 2025 SHPOA Annual Meeting Numbers
Every year, members of SHPOA look to the Annual Meeting for clarity, transparency, and responsible stewardship of the community’s finances. And every year, we hope the Board of Governors delivers clean records, clear explanations, and a credible vision for the budget.
This year?
Well… let’s just say the numbers raised more eyebrows than confidence.
Financial Information From the 2025 SHPOA Annual Meeting
When the financials were presented, many members found themselves asking the same simple question:
“How does any of this add up?”
Some line items appeared to shift without justification. Other costs suddenly spiked with little accompanying explanation. And in several areas, the totals presented didn’t match the figures shared in previous updates or circulated documents.
Of course, mistakes can happen. Numbers can be misread. But when oddities show up over and over again, community members are right to question the pattern.
This year, the pattern felt hard to ignore.
Does the Board of Governors Understand Its Own Numbers?
From the outside, it almost felt like the Board was adjusting the numbers as they went, plugging holes and smoothing rough spots without offering the kind of detail homeowners deserve.
Was it simple disorganization?
Was it indifference?
Was it a failure to prepare?
Or, as some frustrated attendees joked under their breath:
“Cranial rectumitis? Laziness? Devious? Just look at the numbers!”
Now, to be fair, these comments reflect frustration — not confirmed facts. But the reason people get frustrated enough to speak that way is because transparency has been lacking for too long. When a community asks clear questions and only receives vague answers, trust begins to erode.
And once trust slips, even the most routine figures start to look suspicious.
The Real Issue: Accountability and Transparency
Regardless of intent — and no one can claim to know the Board’s intent — the real issue is simple:
The financials should be clear, consistent, and professionally managed. Period.
