A Statement Regarding the Snug Harbor Board of Governors

The Snug Harbor Board of Governors is composed entirely of volunteers. While this fact is often emphasized, volunteer status does not exempt a governing body from accountability, transparency, or ethical responsibility. Since 2020, many property owners have observed and experienced patterns of behavior from the Board that have raised significant concerns about its ability to represent the best interests of the community.

Financial Concerns and Mismanagement
Serious questions remain about the Board’s handling of community funds. Many property owners believe that budgeting practices are inconsistent, numbers are misrepresented, and financial information is presented in a way that lacks clarity. These actions undermine confidence in the stewardship of resources that belong to the entire community.

Elections and Governance Practices
Allegations of election irregularities have further eroded trust. A governing board should uphold the highest standards of fairness and legitimacy, ensuring that elections are conducted openly and transparently. Instead, property owners have expressed frustration with processes that appear neither impartial nor accountable.

Transparency and Communication
Although the Board frequently promotes the concept of “transparency,” its actions often demonstrate the opposite. Critical decisions are made behind closed doors, with little to no meaningful input from the community. Property owners who attempt to voice concerns are too often dismissed or disregarded, leaving them feeling excluded from the very governance that affects their property and community.

Impact on the Community
The cumulative effect of these issues has been deeply damaging. Community engagement has declined, and many residents have lost faith in the Board’s ability to act in the collective interest of Snug Harbor. What should be a vibrant and involved community has instead been overshadowed by mistrust, frustration, and disillusionment.

The Path Forward
Snug Harbor deserves leadership that is ethical, accountable, and genuinely representative of the property owners. True transparency requires more than words—it requires open financial reporting, fair elections, honest communication, and a willingness to listen. A governing body must not only serve, but also earn the trust of the people it represents.

Until the Snug Harbor Board of Governors demonstrates a meaningful commitment to these principles, it will remain viewed by many as self-righteous and unaccountable. The community can—and must—demand better.
