An Open Seat on the Snug Harbor Board of Governors? — But At What Cost?

There is now an open position on the Snug Harbor Board of Governors.

Under normal circumstances, an open board seat would be a positive development — an opportunity for transparency, accountability, and fresh leadership. In a healthy association, new candidates are encouraged to step forward, bring new ideas, and strengthen governance.

Unfortunately, many property owners do not view this moment as routine.

Over time, serious concerns have been raised by members regarding how the Board has conducted itself. Complaints from property owners have included dismissive responses to legitimate questions, communications that many felt were gaslighting in tone, and a pattern of defensiveness rather than openness.

Even more troubling to some are questions that have circulated about election procedures and vote counting transparency. Whether or not every concern has been independently verified, the fact that so many members question the integrity of the process is itself a governance failure. Confidence in leadership depends not only on accuracy, but on credibility — and credibility appears to have eroded.

Financial Stewardship Under Scrutiny

Financial oversight is one of the most fundamental responsibilities of any governing body. Property owners have expressed frustration over what they perceive as insufficient clarity surrounding spending decisions and budgeting practices. When financial reporting lacks detail or accessibility, suspicion naturally follows.

Transparency should not be optional. It should be the default.

The Appearance of Nepotism

Compounding these concerns is the current presence of both a husband and wife serving simultaneously on the Board.

While not necessarily prohibited by governing documents, this arrangement raises legitimate questions about conflicts of interest and the concentration of influence. Even the appearance of nepotism can damage confidence in a governing body. Boards function best when diverse, independent voices are present — not when decision-making power appears consolidated within close personal relationships.

Governance must not only be fair — it must be perceived as fair.

When members begin to feel that a small, insular group is steering decisions, trust weakens. And once weakened, it is difficult to restore.

A Reputation Risk for Reputable Property Owners

Any reputable property owner considering applying for this open position should pause and evaluate the broader context.

Serving on a board carries personal and professional implications. Aligning oneself with a governing body that many members perceive as resistant to accountability could impact one’s own standing within the community.

Joining with the intention to reform from within is admirable. But prospective candidates should carefully consider whether meaningful change is realistically possible under the current structure — or whether participation may simply legitimize practices that many believe require deeper reform.

About This Site

Through this site, we aim to inform, organize, and empower fellow property owners who share our concerns. We believe that only by shedding light on these issues and building a transparent, accountable alternative can we begin to restore trust, integrity, and true representation in our community.

Our decision to create and maintain this platform stems from years of increasing frustration, disillusionment, and concern over the actions, behavior, and decision-making of the current Board. Many of us once believed that greater engagement and participation in Board affairs could lead to meaningful improvements. Instead, what we encountered was a disturbing pattern of opacity, exclusion, mismanagement, and disregard for the voices and welfare of the broader Snug Harbor community.

This website represents a complete and deliberate break from the toxic status quo perpetuated by the current Board. We want no part in their operations, no association with their leadership, and no complicity in their agenda. It is our belief that the Snug Harbor Property Owners Association Board of Governors no longer serves the best interests of the community, but rather operates in a manner that benefits a select few while ignoring the legitimate concerns of residents.

Through this site, we aim to inform, organize, and empower fellow property owners who share our concerns. We believe that only by shedding light on these issues and building a transparent, accountable alternative can we begin to restore trust, integrity, and true representation in our community.
