The Snug Harbor Board of Governors—Irresponsible, Dishonest, and Completely Out of Touch

Some of the property owners are absolutely livid, and we are sure many of you are feeling the same way after receiving the email this week regarding the cancellation of the April Board of Governors meeting. What an absolute disgrace! The entire board—every single one of them—ran for their positions, pledged to serve the property owners, and committed to showing up for the monthly meetings. But now, out of sheer incompetence, we’re told that they can’t even coordinate their personal schedules to attend a scheduled meeting. That’s right—they couldn’t even manage to plan their lives around a meeting they were elected to attend. Unbelievable!

To add insult to injury, we, the property owners, are the ones being let down by their failure to do what they were elected to do. The message, though surprisingly polite, was nothing more than a thinly veiled excuse. The board members can’t plan their schedules? Well, guess what? They knew exactly what they were signing up for when they ran for office. They agreed to attend meetings. It’s not an option; it’s part of the job description. Yet here we are, once again, having to accept the board’s incompetence as the new normal. How many more times will we be let down?

But wait—there’s more. After taking a closer look at the minutes from the February meeting, and guess what we found? An enormous issue. The board, apparently in some self-imposed act of charity, decided NOT to charge the church rent for the lots they’ve occupied. Let’s just put that out there: the church gets prime real estate for free. Why? Because, conveniently, the time frame of this “generosity” aligns perfectly with the reign of one certain president on the board.

Now, we are no conspiracy theorist, but we’re calling this what it is: fishy. The lot in question wasn’t just handed over for free due to some benevolent act of goodwill—it’s too coincidental. This happened between 2019 and 2025, a period that directly overlaps with the president’s term. Could there be a personal agenda at play? Some backroom deals that benefit certain individuals or groups? It sure smells like it. These are the kinds of questions we should be asking ourselves because, frankly, the board isn’t offering us any real answers. If this isn’t underhanded behavior, then I don’t know what is.

And the cherry on top of this entire debacle? The water access step. If you’ve been to Snug Harbor A Park, anytime in the last several years, you’ve noticed the missing or broken steps that lead to the water. It’s been a safety hazard, an eyesore, and a constant inconvenience. Finally, after years of nothing being done, the board has announced that they’re “seeking CAMA approval” to replace the step. How nice! How thoughtful of them!

Let’s not ignore the fact that this has been an issue for YEARS—we’ve been asking for this repair for what feels like forever. And now, suddenly, there’s action. Why? Because the board has mismanaged funds. They’ve been sitting on their hands and failing to prioritize necessary repairs for years, and now they act like replacing a broken step is some grand, heroic gesture. They’re seeking approval from CAMA now, but don’t forget, they’ve done nothing up until this point because of their gross mismanagement. The money was there, but they failed to properly allocate it. It wasn’t a priority for them, and now, when it’s been long overdue, they’re trying to paint it as if they’re saving the day.

So, let’s recap: The Snug Harbor Board of Governors has once again proven themselves completely out of touch with the needs of the property owners they’re supposed to serve. They cancel meetings at the last minute because they can’t manage their own schedules, they give away valuable land to the church for free, and they’ve taken their sweet time to address a long-standing safety issue. All of this stems from incompetence, mismanagement, and a complete lack of accountability.

We’re not sure what it will take for the board to finally get their act together. But at this point, it seems like the only thing they’re good at is making excuses and avoiding their responsibilities. The property owners deserve better, and it’s time the board stopped failing us.

Maybe it’s time for a new board. One that will actually show up and take action when it’s needed. Because the current one? They’ve lost all credibility.
